The method one Redditor possibly used to leak some details from Destiny’s House of Wolves was the same one he used to predict the inventory of Xur: Agent of the Nine.
Last week, Reddit user Megamanexe4 leaked a few pieces of House of Wolves expansion content. The leaks included strikes, new Crucible mode, and a new social space in The Reef.
The same user went on to correctly list all of Xur’s inventory for the past weekend.
But how did he manage to do that? Reddit user WMUKirk posted a detailed explanation of one of the possible ways Xur’s inventory can be revealed ahead of his arrival. The method is called Packet Sniffing, a well-known method of analysing data coming to and from any device connected to a network.
In this case, intercepting data sent from Destiny’s servers and analysing it. The process is not easy and you will need specific tools to do it.

It’s important to understand that Bungie can change any of those items at its discretion. In fact, the developer did just that for Xur’s inventory, choosing to remove the heavy ammo synthesis.
