The strike playlists, modifiers, and weekly activities are getting a big overhaul with the arrival of Destiny 2: Forsaken.
When Destiny 2: Forsaken rolls around, you’ll find a number of big changes to the way Nightfall and Vanguard strikes work. For starters, the Prestige difficulty for Nightfalls is gone, as are Heroic strikes.
More specifically, the August 28 patch (a week before Forsaken) will added a difficulty select to Vanguard strikes. The playlist will now offer Power 300, 400, and 500 strikes. But that’s not all, players at 40 Power or more above any given difficulty will no longer be able to select it, with the exception of the 500 option which will always be available.
Modifiers will be active on all strikes. Interestingly, non-owners of Forsaken will only be limited to the currently available playlist, which maxes out at Power 200. Bungie clarified that modifiers won’t kick in until Forsaken’s proper launch.
Nightfalls too are seeing a few major changes. Prestige is gone, but Nightfall strikes will generally be harder. It’s also no longer going to be a single Nightfall, as you’ll be able to pick one of three Nightfall strikes each week.
The 270 Power Nightfall won’t have scoring for Legacy Players, but they will continue to be able to enable strike modifiers through the Challenge Card.
Speaking of Power, more activities will now award Powerful Gear. The only trick is, not every one of them will be spelled out on the Director. These activities refresh separately from the weekly reset, in order to bring back a sense of discovery.
Beyond these specific changes, Bungie is also tying reward Power to the Power requirement of every activity. In other words, players who go in under-levelled will see a bigger upgrade than players who are barely above the minimum. The idea is to have the Power of the gear you find always be above what you currently have, even if just by one level.
Meditations, which allowed players to repeat story missions for rewards with Ikora, are being retired as well. Instead, you’ll now be able to replay these missions in a higher difficulty through the Heroic story playlist. In it, you’ll find Forsaken campaign missions at 500 Power, as well as missions from earlier campaigns at various Power levels relative to their release.
Because of this, Ikora’s Vanguard Research reputation tokens are being removed, and so is the Legendary parade gear she currently offers. Get it while you can before it’s gone forever.
The arrival of the August 28 patch will also enable Heroic adventures on all destinations. If a planet also has this week’s Flashpoint, one of its adventures will be selected and turned into Heroic per day, though Mercury, and Mars aren’t included in this. Instead, you’ll find an extra adventure per day on Mercury and Mars anytime they have a Flashpoint.
For PvE content, activity modifiers will be shared across Heroic adventures, Heroic story missions, and strikes. You’ll always find one burn, one buff, and one debuff. Buffs and debuffs change daily, whereas the burn is a weekly modifier.
Finally, Bungie outlined several changes to game economy, which are list below:
- Destination materials will become your main source of reputation on their respective destinations.
- Destination materials will be a part of the cost to infuse different weapons and armor across your arsenal.
- Year 1 challenges that granted reputation tokens are being retired, but will be replaced by bounties offered on each destination that provide destination materials.
- Destination tokens and Rare destination materials are no longer awarded, but you can still redeem them for reputation if you have them in your inventory.
- Anything that previously granted destination tokens or Rare materials will reward Common destination materials moving forward.
